About this draft

This policy is a draft pending legal review and may change before LokalMatch launches publicly. It is written with Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA), Québec's Law 25 and other applicable provincial laws in mind.

What we collect

Request details: the service you need, your answers to the job questions, and any notes or photos you add.
Contact information: your name, email address and phone number.
Location: your postal code and, if you provide it, the project address.
Account information: your login details, settings, messages and reviews.
Provider business information: business name, contact details, services, service areas, registration, licence and insurance details, photos and billing information.
Usage data: pages visited, device and browser type, and how you interact with the site.
Cookies and similar technologies, as described in our cookie policy.

Why we use it

To match your request with relevant pros and introduce you.
To verify contact details and prevent fraud, spam and duplicate requests.
To run accounts, messaging, reviews and billing.
To send you messages about your requests, leads or account.
To understand how the site is used and improve it.
To meet our legal obligations.

We ask for your consent when you submit a request, and we record that consent along with the version of this policy that applied at the time.

We ask for your express consent before sharing your contact details with pros matched to your request. You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits. If you do, we may no longer be able to process your request.

We don't sell personal information. We share it only in these situations:

With pros matched to your request who choose to connect with it. Before that, they see only a summary without your contact details.
With service providers that help us run LokalMatch, such as hosting, email, text messaging and payment processing. They may use the information only to provide those services to us.
When required by law, or when needed to protect the rights and safety of users or LokalMatch.
With a buyer or successor if LokalMatch is involved in a merger, sale or similar transaction, in which case this policy continues to apply.

Where your information is stored

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside Canada. When that happens, it may be subject to the laws of those places. We choose providers that protect information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. When it's no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it. Some records, such as billing and consent records, are kept longer for legal and accounting reasons.

How we protect it

We use encryption in transit, access controls based on each person's role, and logs of sensitive actions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information, and we'll notify you and the authorities of a serious privacy incident when the law requires it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information. To use them, email privacy@lokalmatch.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. You can ask to:

Access the personal information we hold about you.
Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
Withdraw your consent.
Delete your account and personal information, subject to legal limits.
Receive a copy of your information in a commonly used format.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we handle your information, write to privacy@lokalmatch.com first so we can try to fix it. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Québec, the Commission d'accès à l'information.

Children

LokalMatch isn't intended for children, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy. We'll post the new version with its date and, for significant changes, let you know before they take effect.
